Albert G. “Al” Buren was born May 28, 1947, to Adrian and Grace (Vogel) Buren. He was raised on a farm in rural Sheldon, Iowa and attended Sheldon Christian grade school. After graduating from Sheldon High School in 1965, Al was drafted into the United States Army and spent two years based in Virginia. Following his honorable discharge, he returned home to Sheldon.
Al was united in marriage to Annette Perry in 1969; they were blessed with two children: Pamela and Dane. Many fond memories were made camping and boating with family and friends when the children were young. Their union later dissolved.
In 1996, Al married Julie More. Together, they enjoyed spending time with friends, taking trips to Minnesota, and traveling to Mexico and the Caribbean. In his spare time, Al took pleasure in doing yard work, solving crossword puzzles, and in most recent years, squirrel watching. He had a passion for growing various types of tomatoes and shared them with family and friends. Most afternoons you could find him enjoying happy hour at the Eagles Club.
For over 30 years, Al had been employed with Moorman’s Feed, driving a feed truck around Northwest Iowa. He also worked for a number of years at Farmer’s Co-op Society in Boyden, Iowa until his retirement. When his health declined in 2023, he moved into Prairie View Campus in Sanborn, Iowa where he peacefully passed away surrounded by his family; he was 78 years of age.
Al is survived by his wife of 29 years, Julie Buren of Sanborn, Iowa; children: Pamela Buren and Dane (Kerri) Buren all of Sheldon, Iowa, and stepson, Jamie (Jill) Tuttle of Bothell, Washington; five grandchildren: Dominic (Keri) Buren and Brittany Buren all of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Alyssa Buren (Addi Hansen) of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Talus and Titan Tuttle of Bothell, Washington; his sisters, Sharon Baker of Ashton, Iowa and Carolyn (Bob) VanderPol of Sibley, Iowa; his brother, Everett (Phyllis) Buren of Sheldon, Iowa; nine nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
