Dale Otto Carstensen, son of Edmond and Minnie (Arp) Carstensen, was born on a farm near Trosky, Minnesota on September 7, 1937. He spent his youth on the farm, attending local schools and graduating from Jasper High School in 1955.

    On August 15, 1959, Dale was united in marriage to Edda Hinrichs of Pipestone, Minnesota. To this union three children were born: Scott Allen, Carrie Lynn, and Steven Dale.

   Dale was not afraid of hard work and loved working with his hands. He was employed with Schwan’s for the majority of his career years; upon retirement, he moved to Hartley, Iowa and lived with his son. In his true hard-working form, Dale acquired a part-time job with the O’Brien County Highway Department, working there until health issues forced him to retire permanently.

    Dale enjoyed hunting, horseback riding, going to casinos with his special friend, Georgia, and spending time with his grandkids. He was also an avid Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan and could often be found watching them on TV with a hot cup of his favorite drink...coffee.

   In July of 2019, Dale became a resident of Community Memorial Health Center, calling it “home”. He loved all of his caregivers and enjoyed his time there until his passing on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at the age of 88 years.

   Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers: Harlan, Virgil and Larry; and a sister, Velva.

    Survivors include his children: Scott (Linda) Carstensen of Hartley, Iowa, Carrie (Dan) Grapevine of Brandon, South Dakota, Steve (Tammie) Carstensen of Lincoln, Nebraska; brothers: Gerald (Marilyn) Carstensen of Minnesota, Dick Carstensen of Sturgis, South Dakota; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
