Connie Clo Riedemann Obituary

Connie Clo Riedemann, 91, of Sioux City, IA, formerly of Hartley, IA, passed away unexpectedly on September 11, 2025, at UnityPoint Health-St Luke’s. Connie was born on December 17, 1933, on the family farm outside of Hartley, IA to Clinton J. Cooper and Sarah Maxine Wilkens. She was welcomed by her older sister, Claudette, and her great uncle, Charles E. Cooper.

Connie and her sister walked over a mile to attend the local country school through the 5th grade. At the age of 10, the family moved just west of Hartley. Connie transferred to the “big city” school system, actively participated in women’s basketball and graduated from Hartley High School in 1952.

Growing up, Connie, her sister and two brothers, Charles and Craig, were active farm hands, pulling thistles, sunflowers, milking cows and showing 4-H cattle.

Shortly after high school graduation, Connie married Cloy Albert on June 15, 1952. To this union, three children, Candice, Clark and Carol were born. Connie and Cloy divorced in 1965 after 13 years of marriage.

In April of 1967, Connie married Kenneth Riedemann. To this union, a daughter, Jody Sue, was born. Connie and Kenneth divorced in 1982 after 15 years of marriage.

During her years on the farm, she was active supporting her children’s 4-H work, and encouraging her children to study, study, study.

Connie started her nurse’s aide work at the Hartley Memorial Hospital in 1963. She continued her work in the nursing home and finished her career in the memory unit. She retired in November 2011, at the age of 78, after 48 years of service. After retirement, Connie continued to volunteer at the nursing home assisting the residents with card playing and other gaming activities.

Once moving off the farm, Connie was active in knitting, crocheting, quilting with the Methodist women and with her dear friend, Betty Eeten. There was always a quilt on the frame at Betty’s. She actively participated in the local cribbage group, the book club, and was a hospice volunteer. She also loved to travel with friends and family. That is, when her PTO allowed.

After living in Hartley for 90 years, Connie sold her home and moved to the independent living facility at Sunrise Retirement Home in Sioux City, IA. There she cultivated close friendships with her Friday bingo buddies, her “Up and Down the River” card playing enthusiasts, her exercise group, the afternoon movie goers and the brain power brainiacs. No wonder she would never answer her phone. Thanks for actively including her.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Candi Albert-Gandy, Clark Albert (Susi), Carol Cote (Chuck Dorn), Jody Jessen (Bob); her grandson, Matt Gandy (Samantha); her great-grandson, Evan Gandy; her brother, Charles Cooper; and many other relatives and friends.

Connie was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Claudette Hourigan; her brother, Craig Cooper; her granddaughter, Sarah Cote; and her son-in-law, Bill Gandy.
