Cloy Wendell Albert Obituary

Cloy Wendell Albert was born March 8, 1932, to Frank and Lenora (Wills) Albert in Hartley, Iowa. He grew up on the family farm south of Hartley and attended school in Moneta, Iowa, graduating from Moneta Consolidated School in 1950. After high school, he was engaged in farming near Hartley, spent many years driving truck for a variety of individuals, chartered flights for local cattlemen, and flew people to Rochester for medical treatment – he was a jack of all trades.

In June of 1952, Cloy was united in marriage to Connie Cooper. Together they had three children: Candi, Clark, and Carol; the marriage later dissolved. He then married Kay Roelofs on December 23, 1967, in Worthington, Minnesota; they had one child, Steven. They made their home on the family farm south of Hartley until moving to an acreage north of Hartley. After Kay’s passing, Cloy moved into town. When his health began to decline, he became a resident of Community Memorial Assisted Living in Hartley and loved giving the gals that worked there a hard time.

Cloy enjoyed flying, spending time at the family cabin and at Clark’s cabin (especially skiing), and antique tractor rides – he was a tractor enthusiast, specifically of his restored Ferguson. He also loved farming, watching his grandkids show cattle, attending their sporting events, and traveling with Kay and friends. Cloy could talk to anyone, allowing him to make an abundance of friends throughout his lifetime. He was close with all of his children and adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He got a kick out of giving his great-grandchildren rides on his walker - and they loved it just as much as he did. One of his great-granddaughters recalls going to see him in assisted living: “Great Papa was really nice and always had mints, bug juices, and puff corn.” (Alice).

On Thursday, July 10, 2025, Cloy passed away at Spencer Municipal Hospital in Spencer, Iowa at the age of 93 years. He is preceded in death by his wife, Kay Albert; his parents, Frank and Lenora Albert; his granddaughter, Sarah Cote; Kay’s parents, Garrit and Minnie Roelofs; his sister and brother-in-law, Verlene and Ken Murray; his son-in-law, Bill Gandy; and his brother-in-law, Ronald Roelofs.

Keeping his memory close in heart are his children: Candi Albert-Gandy of Kansas City, Missouri, Clark and Susi Albert of Fitchburg, Wisconsin, Carol Cote (Chuck Dorn) of Sioux City, Iowa, and Steve and Judi Albert of Hartley, Iowa; grandchildren: Matthew and Samantha Gandy, Alexa and Caleb Wittrock, Wyatt and Megan Albert, Maggie Albert, and Jackson Albert; great-grandchildren: Alice Albert, Lucy Albert, Nora Wittrock, and Evan Gandy; his sister-in-law, Jackie Roelofs; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
