Obituary of Barbara Aileen Dustin

    Barbara Aileen “Barb” Dustin, was born in Polk City, Iowa on February 19, 1934, to Raymond and Hazel (Herman) Miller. She spent her youth in the Polk City and Des Moines, Iowa area, along with her siblings: Faye, Marjorie, Ralph and Chuck. She received her education in Des Moines, graduating from East High School. After completing the required courses, Barb obtained her paralegal certification.

    In 1970, she was united in marriage to Paul Dustin in Nashville, Tennessee. With both being country music enthusiasts, they decided to form a vocal duo called “Dusty & Barb” and began traveling the United States fulfilling singing engagements. One of their favorite tunes, “Perfect Pair” was recorded by Chapel Records.

    Eventually, the couple settled back in Nashville and Barb began to utilize her paralegal education. In her free time, she loved to go bowling or spend hours on genealogy, pouring through photographs and records researching family history. Having lived in Nashville about 10 years, they relocated to Texas to enjoy their retirement. Now free from work obligations, Paul and Barb started traveling again – only this time it was in the comfort of their own RV, visiting family in the Midwest, all the way down to Florida.

    Following Paul’s death in 2006, Barb stayed in Texas to be near her oldest daughter. When she began dealing with health issues, she moved to Iowa in 2022, settling in at Country View Manor in Sibley where she passed from this life on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at the age of 91 years.

    Keeping her memory close at heart are her son, David and his wife, Lori Dustin of Pleasantville, Iowa; her stepdaughter, Helen and her husband, Dan Gruis of Melvin, Iowa; her brother, Chuck and his wife, Karen Miller of Shelda, Iowa; ten grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

    Preceding her in death were her parents, Raymond and Hazel Miller; her husband, Paul Dustin; her daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Leon Henderson; sisters: Faye and Marjorie; one brother, Ralph; and one grandson, Benjamin Gruis.
