Obituary of Barbara Ann Weier

 Barbara Ann “Barb” Weier, one of five children of Sanford Frank and Hattie Helen (Sylvester) Reed, was born December 26, 1936, in Rossie, IA. She spent her youth in the Marathon, IA area where she received her education, graduating from the Marathon Consolidated School in 1955.  

    In June of 1972, Barb was united in marriage to Frank William Weier at Spirit Lake, IA. They made their home in Rossie as Frank worked at glass companies in nearby Spencer, IA and Barb was employed as a Deputy Auditor for Clay County, IA.

    After recording numbers, facts, and figures for over 20 years, Barb’s life went a different direction. She attended the Iowa Conference of the United Church of Christ, completed their lay ministry training program and served the Zion United Church of Christ in Calumet, IA for 10 years. Following her retirement, she moved to Sioux City, IA in November of 2014 to be closer to family and take life a little easier.

    Throughout her life, Barb had been connected to her community as a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley, IA, Mayflower United Church of Christ in Sioux City, IA, VFW Auxiliary, Calumet Ministerial Association, and the Northwest Association of the United Church of Christ Committee on Ministry. She found great satisfaction in doing her part to help forward the word of God however she could. When she wasn’t in a meeting or preparing for one, Barb enjoyed exercising her creative talents by doing scrapbooking, making greeting cards, sewing and many other hand crafts. She also loved to read or do word puzzles with her beloved cat, Kallie, curled up on her lap.

    On Tuesday, March 18, 2025, Barb moved to a new life; she was 88 years of age. Waiting to greet her were her husband of 35 years, Frank Weier; her parents; her young son, Jimmy Adams; her brother, Sanford Reed; sister, Jocile Stockman; and great-grandson, Anthony Bailey.

    Keeping her memory close in heart are her son, Don Adams and his wife, Lynda of Sioux City, IA; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; her brother, Jim Reed of Kearney, NE; sister, Maesel Yelenick of Denver, CO; many other relatives and friends.
