John Marvin Van Wyk, son of John Sr. and Coba (Humme) Van Wyk, was born March 5, 1954 at Sheldon, Iowa. He and his three brothers and sister grew up on a farm north of Sanborn, Iowa. He received his education at the Sanborn Public School, graduating with the class of 1972. Following high school, he attended Northwestern College at Orange City, Iowa for one year, returning to Sanborn to help with the farming operation.
On July 23, 1976, John was united in marriage to Judith Lynn Kanengieter at the Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon. To this union, four children were born: Jason, Laura, Renae, and Brianne. Their married life began on the Van Wyk family farm north of Sanborn where they raised their family and farmed together for 26 years. In 2011, they relocated to an acreage east of Sheldon. For the past ten years, John has been employed as a truck driver for Deluxe Feeds out of Sheldon.
Making memories on family vacations and spending time with his kids and grandchildren were the times he treasured most. He also enjoyed being a member of the Sanborn Gun Club and trap shooting.
John was a life-long member of First Reformed Church in Sanborn, having served as an Elder and a Deacon. Over the years, he also gave of his time as a Sunday School teacher and Youth Group sponsor. John passed from this life on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at the age of 63.
He is once again reunited with his parents, John Sr. and Coba Van Wyk; his brother, Denny Van Wyk; sister-in-law, Donna Van Wyk; and mother-in-law, Earlene Kanengieter.
John will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Judy of Sheldon, Iowa; his children: Jason and Sarah Van Wyk of Alton, Iowa, Laura Wagenaar of Milford, Iowa, Renae and Matt Hartog of Sanborn, Iowa, and Brianne Van Wyk also of Sanborn, Iowa; eight grandchildren; two brothers: Arlan and Ken Van Wyk; one sister, Nelva Kleinhesselink; sister-in-law, Gert Van Wyk; parents-in-law, Andrew and Muriel Kanengieter; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
