Obituary of Lucille Arlene Hofman

Please share a memory of Lucille to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Lucille Arlene Hofman, the daughter of Abel and Alice (Wilkens) Vander Burgh, was born on June 12, 1930 in Sheldon, IA. She spent her early years on a farm by Sheldon, and in 1940, her family moved to a farm by Sanborn, IA. Lucille received her early education in country school and attended there through the eighth grade. She then went on to high school in Sanborn, graduating at age 17 with the class of 1947. Following her graduation, she went to work at Kuiper's Grocery in Sanborn until her marriage.
Her dream after high school was to become a wife and mother, and this dream came true when she was united in marriage to John B. Hofman on January 18, 1950. They spent their working years on the family farm south of Sanborn from 1950 until 1983, when they moved into the town of Sanborn. In September of 2013, Lucille became a resident of Prairie View Home in Sanborn.
Lucille's faith was a sustaining factor in her life from a very early age.  She always felt her parents' advice of living one's life according to God's law was the best advice of all. Lucille's favorite bible verse was John 3:16 because it talks about God's love, and this was always a great comfort to her. Her favorite hymn was "Amazing Grace," because it expounds God's abundance of grace. She was a member of Cornerstone United Reformed Church and the Ladies' Wednesday Afternoon Bible Study.
Lucille loved life, and her favorite season was Spring. She also looked forward to each Christmas with her family. Her hobbies and special interests included gardening, knitting, crocheting, quilting, and sudoku, and babysitting.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Larry (Kathy) Hofman, Eileen Vander Werff, and Alan (Cindy) Hofman all of Sanborn, IA; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; her brother, Clifford (Barb) Vander Burgh; her sister, Joyce Reinke; other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were her husband, John, on August 12, 2007; her parents, Abel and Alice Vander Burgh; a brother and his wife, Lloyd and Marlene Vander Burgh; brothers and sisters-in-law: Robert Reinke, Bert and Agnes Solsma, Bill and Engelena Damstra, John and Gertrude Hengeveld, Dick and Cornelia Solsma, Gilbert and Bertha Meernik, Marvin and Dorothy Bosma, Dick and Polly Hofman.
