Obituary of Patricia DeKam

Please share a memory of Patricia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Patricia Ann (Postma) De Kam, the daughter of John and Josie (Drost) Postma, was born on February 20, 1942 in Sanborn, IA. Her youth was spent living on a farm north of Sanborn. She attended Sanborn High School, graduating in 1960—just days before her wedding. On June 4, 1960, Patricia was united in marriage to Kenneth De Kam. Pat and Kenny spent most of their married years north of Sanborn on the family farm where she enjoyed the roles of wife and homemaker. Later, she worked for several years at Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn. Pat was a member of Sanborn Christian Reformed Church, where she enjoyed participating in Coffee Break Bible Study, and ministered to many others by sending cards and notes of encouragement to those who were hurting. She loved her family and enjoyed entertaining, collecting antiques, crafts, and spending time in her garden and her “little shanty”. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Kenny; four sons: Kendall (Diane) De Kam of Lake Park, IA, Rick (Evy) De Kam of Rock Valley, IA, Wade (Renea) De Kam of George, IA, Mike De Kam of Sanborn, and one daughter, Anne (Richard) Farrish of Wylie, TX; eight grandchildren: Brad (Faye) De Kam, and Matt De Kam, Jess, Nathan and Caleb De Kam, and Brianna, Jimmy and Sara Grosvenor of Wylie, TX; an anticipated first great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter Jody. More important than when she was born, where she lived and what she enjoyed; she had her name written in the Lamb’s Book of Life in Heaven, which brought her home when she passed from this life on Thursday, March 29, 2007. Ecclesiastes 3 tells us: “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven. A time to be born, and a time to die…A time to weep, and a time to laugh…A time to mourn, and a time to dance…He hath made everything beautiful in His time.” Pat had her time to be born, and her time to die; those of us left behind will weep and mourn, but in time will again laugh and dance. In the meantime, know that Pat has received a new healthy body, a mansion on a street paved with gold, and a seat at the banquet table of Jesus along with those loved ones who preceded her in going home. And I’m sure that everyone gets a little piece of desert at the table too.
