George Norbert Hoffman was born near Melvin, IA on March 2, 1926; the son of Charles and Marie (Foisey) Hoffman. He spent his early years on a farm in the Melvin area, and attended the Melvin Community School. He enlisted in the United States Army on August 16, 1944 at Ft. Snelling, Minnesota. After basic training George became an Anti-Tank Gun Crewman and served his country during WW II. One of the campaigns that he was a part of, was the battle of the Rhineland in Central Europe. After his return from military duty, George met and married Norma J. Huisenga. They were married on November 20, 1946 at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Sibley, IA. Following their marriage the couple moved to a family farm where they were blessed with four children: Sandy, Paul, Diann and Joe. They lived and worked on their farm for many years until retiring and moving to Melvin in 1994. George entered the Country View Manor in Sibley, IA on February 20, 2006 and passed away there on November 16, 2006. George is survived by his wife of 60 years, Norma; four children: Sandy Butler and her husband Ben of Sibley, IA, Paul Hoffman and his wife Alice of Worthington, MN, Diann Wagenaar and her husband Scrub of Archer, IA and Joe Hoffman of Melvin, IA; 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; one brother Richard Hoffman of Marshalltown, IA; two sisters: Cleo Braun of Sibley, IA and Blanche Hodapp of Sioux City, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Frank and Clarence, and three infant children. George was an active member of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Sanborn, Knights of Columbus Chapter 7900, American Legion Guthrie Post # 470 of Melvin, IA and the NFO. He enjoyed gardening, golfing, bowling, playing cards (were he was never out bid) and watching all sports-especially the Minnesota Twins. In Loving Memory George N.
