LaVaughn Jean (Lill) Meiske the daughter of August and Edna (Stoltenberg) Lill was born on July 24, 1932 in Holstein, Iowa. She was raised in rural Holstein. She was baptized on December 4, 1932 and confirmed in April of 1946 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Holstein. LaVaughn attended rural school, Holstein Elementary and graduated from Holstein High School in 1950. She continued her education by attending the Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls, Iowa where she received her diploma in 1952. In 1977, she received her B.A. degree from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa. On June 6, 1954, she married John F. Meiske. After their marriage they moved to rural Hartley where they were blessed with four children, Lori, Lee, Ann and David. LaVaughn taught elementary education in Hartley, Sanborn and Everly. She was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and shared her passion for the Lord through teaching Sunday school, Bible School, Confirmation, helping with Junior Choir, LWML, played the organ and was a member of the Decorating Committee which she really enjoyed. She enjoyed baking and preparing meals and always opened her home to her family and friends. Playing the piano and organ was a pastime she treasured. LaVaughn dedicated many years for her son, Lee, who was injured in an accident. She was a very caring, loving and devoted person who touched many lives. She was always thankful for the strength God gave her through the years. LaVaughn passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2006 at her home with her family at her side. Left to cherish her memory are her husband: John of Hartley, IA; her children: Lori Albrecht and her husband Dave of Sgt. Bluff, IA, Lee Meiske of Hartley, IA, Ann Schauer and her husband Phillip of Sgt. Bluff, IA, David Meiske and his special friend Kris Jenkins both of South Sioux City, IA; she was blessed with four grandchildren Emily and Adam Albrecht, Luke and Hannah Schauer, all of Sgt. Bluff, IA. LaVaughn is also remembered by many special relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Louis and Lloyd; a sister-in-law: Dorothy Lill and a nephew: Dennis Lill.
