Obituary of Van Kley

Please share a memory of Van to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Cornie Van Kley, the son of Case and Lillian (Van Iperen) Van Kley, was born on July 19, 1923 in Hospers, IA. He spent his childhood years in Sibley, IA, attending the area country schools. On March 3, 1948, he was united in marriage to Hermina Van Engen at the Christian Reformed Church in Sibley, and to this union, three sons were born: Craig, Dennis, and Doug. The couple later moved to Sanborn, IA, where Cornie worked for 38 years at the O’Brien County Cooperative Creamery (now known as AMPI); first as a milk hauler, and later as a field representative to farmers. The Van Kleys were custodians of the First Reformed Church in Sanborn for 23 years. Due to failing health, in 2000, Cornie became a resident of the Oak Park Care Center in Sheldon, IA, where he was loved and cared for until he passed away on July 17, 2006 at the Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon. Cornie valued education, and was very proud of the fact that his three sons and two of his grandsons are currently teachers. He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sanborn. He enjoyed outdoor sports, including fishing, hunting, camping, horseshoes, and golfing. He loved watching and playing baseball, and was a big New York Yankee fan. Spending time with his own family was important to Cornie, and he seldom passed up an opportunity to tease his Oak Park Care Center family. Survivors include his wife, Mina; three sons: Craig and Sharon of Blue Earth, MN, and their three children: Kay and her husband Bernie Beigh, Chad and Kurt; Dennis and Sandy of Sioux Center, IA, and their three sons: Taylor, Brett and Brady; and Doug and Michelle of Edgerton, MN and their three children: Heather, Hailey and Blake; two sisters: Stella Schiernbeck of Sibley, IA, and Hilda and her husband John Roelfs of Ashton, IA; two sisters-in-law: Alma Van Kley of Sheldon, IA, and Jeanne Van Kley of Worthington, MN; many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and three brothers.
