Memorial Tribute Doris Alberta (Thietje) Hunt was born November 21, 1919 to Albert John Thietje and Ella (Hapke) Thietje at the Hand Hospital in Hartley, Iowa. She spent her childhood and grew up in Plessis, Iowa and Hartley, Iowa. On April 1, 1935, Doris was united in marriage to Paul Milton Hunt. They were blessed with one son, Thietje A. Hunt, born October 27, 1946. At their son’s college graduation, they surprised him by presenting to him their high school diplomas (G.E.D.s). Doris was active in the Hartley community in a number of ways. Being a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, she served as organist for over 25 years, was a member and officer of Trinity’s Dorcas Society, and a long-time participant in Trinity’s quilting efforts. She was also involved in the annual Brotherhood Beef Supper. Doris was a member and an officer in the Hartley American Legion Auxiliary, served on the Hartley Library board for many years, as well as the Hartley Band Boosters. The Hartley Sentinel employed her as their news correspondent, gathering information and writing about the social/family activities of Hartley area families. In her leisure time, Doris enjoyed sewing and reading. In the summer months, she loved spending time at their cottage at Okoboji with her pole in the water. In 1998, Doris relocated to Rapid City, South Dakota to be near her family. She lived at Prairie Hills Golden Living Center located in Rapid City where she passed from this life on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at the age of 96. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Paul; infant brothers: Albert and Alfred Thietje; sisters: Erna Latuska, Velva Klinker, Leah Ann Christiansen, and Dollene Thietje. She is survived by her son, Thietje and his wife, Donna (Wright) Hunt of Rapid City, South Dakota; three granddaughters she lovingly referred to as "her three angels": Tiffany C. Even and her husband, Chuck of Rapid City, SD, Dr. Natasha L. Herz and her husband, Jim of Rockville, MD, and Rachel M. Wagner and her husband, Andrew of Thornton, CO; four great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild: Vicki Even, Trenten Carr, Dori Herz (who was named after Doris), Hunter Herz, and Brianna Wagner; other relatives and friends. ~ Memorials may be made to Trinity United Church of Christ ~ Celebration of Life Doris A.
