Obituary of Sharon Otto

Memorial Tribute Mr. Sharon L. Otto, the son of Richard and Henrietta (Jansen) Otto, was born on September 25, 1931 in O'Brien County, Iowa. He received his education at Hartley Schools. He was united in marriage to Marian Ebel at St. John's Lutheran Church in Germantown, Iowa on May 16, 1954 by Pastor G. Eschenbocker. After their marriage, Sharon was drafted into the United States Army. Marian went with him to California and Colorado until he was shipped overseas to the Marshall Islands to Enewetak. He came home to farm north of Hartley, Iowa where he also raised Registered Quarter Horses. For over 30 years, Sharon maintained a band of twelve broodmares and a few different stallions, raising hundreds of horses. One mare in particular named, She Sure Is A Lady, took Sharon all the way to the Denver Stock Show where the horse placed 5th at Halter Class. She eventually earned the AQHA ROM (Register of Merit). While Sharon farmed the land, Marian cared for the horses. At one time they had as many as 33 horses on the farm. Sharon and Marian resided on the farm for 53 1/2 years until 2012 when they moved to the town of Hartley. Sharon was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Hartley as well as a member of the American Legion. He passed away on September 17, 2016 at the age of 84. Preceding him in death were his parents; his granddaughter, Micheala Otto; his sister, June Arlene Otto; his brother, Sherwood; three half-sisters: Helen Schoelerman, Viola Fahlenkamp, and Velma Henning. Sharon leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Marian; son, Jeffrey Lane (Meg), and their family: Michael (Lissa), Brady, Lindsey, Marian, Benjamin (Alayna) and their children, Soren, and Myles, Jennifer (Grant) Hegstad and their daughter, Megan; son, Jerry Lee (Kathleen) and their family: Jason (Sara) and their children, Ben, Madison, Emily, Abby, Megan, and Moriah, Kristina (Matt) and their children: Avery, Anissa, and Aiden, Jared (Tiffany) and their children: Kipton, and Emmett, Katen (Donny) and their children: Kambrie and Kalvin, and Kylah; daughter, Jean Lynette (Kevin) Tewes and their children: Amanda (Paul) Ahrenstroff and their children: Hunter and Hoyt, Samantha Scroggin and her daughter, Ellisyn; and Jacob; daughter, Joanne Lynn (Todd) Bonestroo and their daughter, Mandy and her children: Arthur and Kaleb, and Troy, and April; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law: Burdette Ebel, Marge Mesner, Ade Traver, Leora Ebel, and Elaine Otto; many nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.
