Obituary of Johanna Bootsma

Please share a memory of Johanna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Memorial Tribute Johanna Bootsma, the daughter of Engelbert and Johanna (Kraayenbrink) Kaemingk, was born on October 15, 1922, on a farm near Sanborn, IA. She spent her youth in the Sanborn area as well as New Holland, SD. She attended Sanborn Christian School. Johanna returned to Sanborn after the death of her aunt, Lena Hofland, to care for the children. It was during this time that she met her future husband, Peter Bootsma. Later her mother informed Johanna that she and Peter had actually been baptized on the same Sunday at the Sanborn Christian Reformed Church. On June 13, 1946, Johanna married Peter Bootsma in Sanborn, IA. The couple was blessed with seven children. They entered into farming and farmed near Primghar, IA, and later Melvin, IA. Johanna was the quintessential farm wife. She thrived on cooking, sewing, gardening, canning and raising her children. The grandchildren could always count on Grandma to relate a story about their parents' escapades. Johanna always had a servant’s heart and never stopped helping out wherever she could; involving herself in the Sanborn United Reformed Church Ladies Aid and Bible Studies, and the Prairie View Auxiliary. Left to cherish her memory are her children and their families: Calvin and Patsy of Ireton, IA; Elvern and Helen of Phoenix, AZ; Jolene and Del Spronk of Sheldon, IA; Harlan and Barb of Sioux Center, IA; Jan and Bill Pearson of Sibley, IA; Philip and Barb of Melvin, IA; Wendel and Helene Buys of Luverne, MN; 27 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren; brothers: Elmer Kaemingk of Lynden, WA and Frank Kaemingk of Denver, CO; sisters-in-law: Jennie Kaemingk of Corsica, SD and Betty Kaemingk of Lynden, WA. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Peter; one son, Jerome; four grandchildren: Laurie Bootsma, Clint Spronk, Jared Bootsma, and Charlie Bootsma; brothers: Ted Kaemingk, Hank Kaemingk, and Jim Kaemingk; sisters: Alyda Mulder, Mary Buys, and Betty Nagy. Johanna will be remembered for her strong faith, her dry wit, and her generous and loving spirit. She left a deep legacy of love that will live on through her children, grandchildren and all those she came alongside.
