Obituary of Violet Pingel

Please share a memory of Violet to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Memorial Tribute Violet "Vi" Emily Hilda Pingel, daughter of Charles and Anna (Ebel) Pingel, was born November 15, 1931 on a farm near Paullina, Iowa. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith by Pastor Steger on November 26, 1931, and confirmed on June 9, 1946 at Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina by Pastor Martin Peters. Vi spent her childhood, and grew up on a farm two miles west of Primghar, IA. As a young girl, she loved being outdoors, helping her parents with various chores around the farm and playing with her siblings: George, Bill, and Bernice, not to mention all her pets. Vi's early education began at a country school two miles from her home which she attended through the 4th grade. She completed the remaining elementary grades and high school at Primghar, graduating with the class of 1950. As she got older, she enjoyed being around all her nieces, nephews and cousins. They were all very important to her, as was her whole family. She loved to bake; coffee cake being her specialty. As her nieces and nephews were growing up and would come for a visit to see their grandparents, Vi would gladly entertain them. She enjoyed children - she even worked at a day-care center at one point. She had a sharp, dry sense of humor and was known for her one-liners, but her heart was good as gold. After her mother's death, Vi continued to stay with her father in Primghar and help him out with keeping house and cooking. When he passed away, she would often times run errands for elderly neighbors, work in the local coffee shop or lend a hand should someone need it; she was always willing to help out. Following the death of her brother, George, Vi relocated to O'Neill, NE to be closer to her sister, Bernice. She also moved her church membership from St. John's Lutheran in Germantown, IA, where she'd been a member for 60 years, to Christ Lutheran at O'Neill. She resided in an apartment there until her health dictated a move to the Golden Living Care Center in O'Neill. She passed from this life on Thursday, August 18, 2016 at the age of 84. Preceding her in death were her parents, Charles and Anna Pingel; her brothers: George and William Pingel; one niece, Karen (Pingel) Gano; and one nephew, Douglas Wm. Pingel. Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Bernice (Gilbert) Gramberg of O'Neill, NE, two nephews; five nieces; other relatives and friends.
