Memorial Tribute Norma Jean Huisenga, daughter of Ollie and Amelia (Knott) Huisenga, was born June 6, 1928 at Sibley, Iowa. She spent her youth in the Sibley area and attended school there, graduating from Sibley High School with the class of 1946. On November 20, 1946, Norma was united in marriage to George Norbert Hoffman at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Sibley. Following their marriage, George and Norma began farming together north of Melvin, Iowa where they raised their four children: Sandy, Paul, Diann and Joe. While tending to her growing family, Norma also helped with chores around the farm, and took care of a large vegetable garden as well. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed making all kinds of good things for her family to eat. Over the years, she had also been employed at Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn, Iowa and Sather's at Round Lake, Minnesota. She and George retired from farming in 1994 and moved into the town of Melvin. With life moving at a slower pace, Norma had more time to read...something she always loved to do. She belonged to the Red Hats, American Legion Auxiliary, and TS and T of Melvin. Norma was also a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church Ladies Aid of Sanborn. In June of 2012, Norma became a resident at Prairie View in Sanborn where she resided until her passing on Friday, July 1, 2016 at the age of 88. Preceding her in death were her parents, Ollie and Mille Huisenga; her husband, George; and three infant children. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Sandy (Ben) Butler of Sibley, Iowa, Paul (Alice) Hoffman of Worthington, Minnesota, Diann (Scrub) Wagenaar of Archer, Iowa, and Joe Hoffman of Melvin, Iowa and his friend, Theresa; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; brothers: Howard Huisenga of Sioux City, Iowa, Jack (Mary) Huisenga of Sioux City, Iowa, Roger (Marilyn) Huisenga of Sibley, Iowa and Robert Huisenga of Sibley, Iowa; other relatives and friends.
