Obituary of Genevieve Rodenberg

Memorial Tribute Genevieve Cleo Rodenberg, the daughter of Walter and Pearl (Morfitt) Tischer, was born on November 19, 1923 near Harris, IA. She was baptized at the United Methodist Church in Harris. Gen spent her youth on a farm near Harris, where she attended school and graduated with the class of 1941. As an only child, one of her fondest memories was going to the fields with her father sitting on his lap while the team of horses pulled the farm machinery. Following high school, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Morgan. They made their home at the San Diego Naval Base. While there, Gen was employed in the Naval Hospital. The couple was blessed with three children: Florene, Terry and Galen. On June 29, 1950, she was united in marriage to Allen Rodenberg, together they made their home in Spencer, IA. To this union two children were born: Genal and Alan. Gen worked at Scott's Store and JCPenny's retiring in 1979. She remained very active in the Spencer community, her focus was on volunteer work with Kiwanis, V.F.W., State Sheriff's Association, AARP, Spencer Hospital, Spencer Senior Center and Advocate at Long House Nursing Home. She received the President's award for her devoted volunteer work and also the Governors State award. Gen was also instrumental in starting her neighborhood watch program. Gen was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer, IA. She enjoyed baking, especially for family get togethers. Her hobbies included playing bingo, fishing and reading. She traveled to many places, with the Black Hills being her favorite. Spending the past two and half years at the Prairie View Campus, she was blessed with new friendships and caring hands. She thoroughly enjoyed the bingo games, getting her hair and nails done at Prairie View. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons; one daughter; five grandsons; and one granddaughter. Gen is survived by her daughter, Florene and her husband, Gaylord Bobzien of Hartley, IA: son, Galen Morgan and his wife, Louise of Las Vegas, NV; 20 grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren, including seven sets of five generations.
