Obituary of Robert A. Scholten

Memorial Tribute Robert "Bob" Anthony Scholten, son of Richard and Caroline (Scholten) Scholten, was born September 1, 1932 on the family farm. He spent his youth in the Sanborn, Iowa area, graduating from Melvin, Iowa in 1950. On February 21, 1958, he was united in marriage to Rosalie De Kock in Sioux Center, Iowa. To this union four children were born: Randal, Ronald, Ranae and Rachelle. They made their home in the Melvin area and raised their family there. Bob had a close relationship with his God. He served as an Elder and Deacon for many years in the First Reformed Church at Sanborn. Bob spent his years working on the farm, raising cattle and hogs, and growing row crops. As a farmer, Bob enjoyed each new season and the challenges that came with it. If equipment was broken, he fixed it. Bob did a lot of custom work for neighbors and friends. Even with the demands of agriculture, Bob still had time to pursue his hobbies of woodworking and fishing. He enjoyed creating his own lures, sinkers and bottom bouncers. He passed his love for fishing on to his children and grandchildren. He was proud of all of each one of his children. Bob's life was truly blessed when he became a grandfather and a great-grandfather. He passed from this life on Monday, May 16, 2016 at the age of 83. Preceding him in death were his parents, Richard and Caroline Scholten and his brother-in-law, John Mouw. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Rosalie of Melvin, Iowa; his children: Randal and Rhonda Scholten of Sanborn, Iowa; Ronald and Kathleen Scholten of Waverly, Iowa; Ranae and Charles Drews of Colton, South Dakota and Rachelle and Christian Davis of Navarre, Florida; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Kenneth and Joan Scholten of Mitchell, South Dakota; and one sister, Harriet Mouw of Melvin, Iowa; other relatives and friends.
