Obituary of Donald Treimer

Please share a memory of Donald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Memorial Tribute Donald Dean Treimer, son of William and Emma (Krebs) Treimer, was born on September 7, 1928 in Hartley, IA. Don graduated from Hartley High School in 1946 and attended AIB Business School in Des Moines, IA. After graduating from AIB, he came back to Hartley, working for Burley's Appliance as a repairman (thank goodness those machines never break!) In the summer of 1950, Don met the love his life, Luetta Larsen. They were joined in marriage on March 17, 1951 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hartley. Two months later, Don was called to duty as a Sgt. Forward Observer during the Korean Conflict. When Don was honorably discharged, he returned to Hartley and went into the family business with his father, William, and brother, Virgil. Don and Lu raised two children: David and Ann. They were long-time members of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hartley. Donald was extremely active in his community. He served as President of the School Board, was a member of the Hartley Chamber of Commerce, Century Mutual Insurance Association, and was a founding member of Meadowbrook Golf Club. He was also a long-time volunteer fire fighter and a member of the Hartley American Legion Post #288. Donald loved to golf, dance, bowl, play cards and spend time with his family and friends. He and Lu also enjoyed their winters in Mesa, AZ. Don was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a "one-of-a-kind" sort of guy, known by many as a "ray of sunshine", as he could light up a room with his infectious smile and brighten anyone's day with his whistling and warm personality. His wife Luetta was his "diamond-in- the-rough" for 62 wonderful years. Together with Luetta and friends, he was a regular at Pete's, Barbs, Jay's, Tweeters, Ashton...to name a few. Don could eat pancakes for every breakfast, and a steak for every dinner. He was set in his ways and knew what he loved. In January of 2014, Don moved to his "palace" (Community Memorial Assisted Living) in Hartley where the amazing staff members (Marilyn, Kay, Misti, Sarah, Judy, Norma and others) made him feel like a "king". He passed from this life on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at the age of 87 years. Don was preceded in death by his wife, Luetta; his parents; his in-laws, Louis and Celia Larsen; three brothers: Wayne Treimer (Loretta), Wilbert Treimer (Ruth), and Virgil Treimer; one brother-in-law, Wayne Harmon; and many treasured friends and relatives. He is survived by his two adored children: David (Cathy) Treimer of Hartley, IA and Ann Treimer of Oak Park, IL; his treasured grandchildren: Abigail (Ben) Bunge of Waukee, IA, Sarah (Chris) Hunt of Plymouth, MN, Eric Lindquist of Miami, FL and Charles Lindquist of Chicago, IL; his great-grandchildren: Aiden and Paige Bunge, and Henry Hunt; sister in-law, Doris Treimer of Hartley, IA; brother-in-law, Roger (Ardith) Larsen of Creve Couer, MO; sister-in-law, Patricia Harmon of Arnold, MO; many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and long-time friends. Don would want you to know he is happy to be back with Lu – Thank you and "You are the Best!" Celebration of Life Donald D.
